A woman died from injuries sustained in a two-car crash Friday afternoon that closed Pioneer Parkway in Springfield, police said.
Ashley O’Connell, 27, of Springfield, died in the crash, Springfield police said several weeks after the collision.
Officers arrived shortly after 4 p.m. to find her unconscious in the driver’s seat of a 2018 Hyundai Elantra.
She received medical aid at the scene but died from her injuries at a local hospital, police said. Her name was initially withheld pending notification of her next of kin, police said.
Police tape closed the scene from the public, with about a half-dozen people gathered to watch as officers marked spots in the roadway while investigating the crash. Police closed the roadway for at least two hours, according to witnesses.
Police said Monday the collision took place as the Hyundai traveled westbound on F Street crossing Pioneer Parkway East. A 2010 Audi A6 heading northbound collided with the driver’s side of the Hyundai, police said. Police did not identify the driver of the Audi.
The Springfield Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating the crash, police said, adding that alcohol isn’t a factor, according to preliminary investigation.
Police asked witnesses to the collision to call Springfield police at 541-726-3714.
