Eugene police used dogs and drones to search for someone involved in an early morning shooting on Wednesday, Sept. 3, near East 30th Avenue and Spring Boulevard.
Medics took one person to a local hospital after the shooting, which was reported at 5:06 a.m., police said. The injuries appear to be non-life-threatening, Eugene police spokesperson Melinda McLaughlin said.
A statement released at about 6:45 a.m. referred to police search efforts “for the other involved person,” but no one was found, McLaughlin said.
“They used drone teams and also used K-9 teams. They very thoroughly searched the area. They did not immediately find anybody, but they’re continuing to investigate,” McLaughlin said.
McLaughlin said there was no detailed description of the person being sought by police.
In a statement at 8:46 a.m., Eugene police said the shooting seemed to be “an isolated incident between two people, and there does not appear to be any ongoing threat to the public.”
Police issued a traffic advisory at 5:42 a.m. asking people to avoid the area and closed 30th Avenue. At 11: 30 a.m., police announced they had reopened the busy thoroughfare.
Neighborhood residents Wednesday morning said they appreciated receiving text alerts about the shooting, one saying she was “so grateful we got the alerts when we did.”
Bethany Barnes told Lookout Eugene-Springfield she decided out of caution to take all three of her children to a medical appointment that one of them had.
“It was unnerving, for sure. I’ve never been this close to a shooting,” Barnes said.
