A Springfield man was sentenced to more than nine years in prison for providing LSD to a teen and sexually abusing her in a vehicle in a department store parking lot.
A jury March 18 found Chasen Allan Macklin, 37, guilty of two counts of second-degree sexual abuse, delivering a controlled substance to a minor and unlawful contact with a child, among other charges.
Lane County Circuit Court Judge Kamala Shugar issued the sentence of nine years, nine months.
In a memo to the court, court-appointed attorney Jennifer Lang Perkins asked for a sentence of 45 months, citing Macklin’s childhood abuse and “overwhelming support by his peers and the community.” Twenty letters from family, friends and his fiancé were submitted in support of Macklin.
Eugene police began investigating Macklin after a teen in January 2024 reported being sexually assaulted, police said in a previous news release. The girl was under 18, according to documents filed in the case.
A jury also found Macklin guilty of first-degree escape, resisting arrest and two counts of recklessly endangering another person.
In a March 28, 2024, traffic stop, Macklin resisted arrest and attempted to flee before being taken into custody, police said.
