A 24-year-old Cottage Grove woman has died after the minivan she was driving struck a roadside embankment on Interstate 5 on Saturday, Feb. 14.

Leyla Ann Ayers was taken to an area hospital. The hospital on Feb. 17 notified Oregon State Police that Ayers had died, state police said in a news release.

State police responded 12:56 a.m. near milepost 167 in Lane County to find an overturned silver Honda Odyssey partially blocking the interstate. 

Ayers had been southbound on I-5 near Cottage Grove when the vehicle, for an unknown reason, left the right shoulder of the road, state police said. Ayers was ejected from the van, police said.

State police said they believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
