A 70-year-old Springfield man died Monday, Dec. 15, after a two-vehicle collision on 30th Avenue near Lane Community College, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office said.

David Tetukevich died after being taken to a local hospital, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies responded at about 4 p.m. to the collision on 30th Avenue near Gonyea Road, the sheriff’s office said. One vehicle was driven by Tetukevich. The driver of the other vehicle escaped injury while a passenger sustained minor injuries.

Before the arrival of deputies or medics, bystanders broke a vehicle window to pull out Tetukevich and perform CPR, the sheriff’s office said.

“Thanks to the bystanders who took decisive action and attempted lifesaving measures,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “Although not the outcome hoped for, it’s encouraging to see residents of our county step up to help each other.”

An initial investigation found that Tetukevich possibly experienced a medical event that led to the collision, the sheriff’s office said.
