Eugene police vehicles pinned a fleeing Ford F-150 after a pursuit that left one officer injured and three police vehicles damaged, Friday, Nov. 14.
The forcible vehicle stop at about 3:13 p.m. near Martin Luther King Boulevard and Garden Way ended with the 46-year-old driver detained and taken to police headquarters for questioning.
A news release Friday evening about the pursuit did not name the driver but said charges were pending.
Police said at about 3:05 p.m. an officer tried to pull over the truck near Valley River Center, stating the officer attempted to stop “a reckless driver.”
When the truck failed to stop, multiple police cars began following the truck. During the ensuing pursuit, which involved police vehicles with lights and sirens activated, two patrol vehicles were damaged near Club Road and Cedarwood Drive, police said.
The Ford F-150 continued eastbound toward Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, with heavy traffic in the area for an evening Oregon Ducks home football game, police said.
Along with the vehicle pursuit, a foot chase began after a passenger stepped out of the moving vehicle and attempted to flee, police said. Officers detained the passenger and, after pinning the F-150, another passenger inside the vehicle after it came to a stop, police said.
The officer hurt during the pursuit was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, police said, with the investigation ongoing.
