A 65-year-old woman pleaded guilty Friday, Nov. 7, to the fatal stabbing of a man she had been living with at a Eugene residence, according to court documents and previous police statements.
Cynthia Christine Fletcher admitted to first-degree manslaughter in the fatal March stabbing of 63-year-old David James Valentine as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors, according to court documents.
A sentencing hearing has been set for Nov. 21 in Lane County Circuit Court.
In June, a grand jury indicted Fletcher on a second-degree murder charge. But as part of the negotiated agreement, she pleaded guilty to what is considered a “lesser included offense,” according to court documents.
The stabbing took place on March 29 at a home in the 1500 block of West Sixth Avenue, according to previous Eugene police statements. Police detained Fletcher at the scene before she was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.
A Lane County Circuit Court judge will decide Fletcher’s sentence. Prosecutors have recommended 20 years in prison, including 10 years during which Fletcher would not be eligible for early release or any reduction of sentence.
In addition to manslaughter, Fletcher also pleaded guilty to unlawful use of a weapon.
