The Springfield Police Department is holding its National Night Out event Tuesday, Aug. 5, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Les Schwab Sports Park, 400 S. 32nd St. in Springfield.
And the Lane County Sheriff’s Office is hosting two National Night Out events on Tuesday: One is scheduled for Creswell, at Holt Park, from 5 to 7 p.m. The second is set for Veneta City Park, from 6 to 8 p.m.
The free events at each location will include up-close views of department vehicles, along with information about special units and teams. Department officers and staffers also will be available.
In Springfield, the event also will include displays and equipment from other agencies, including the Eugene Police Department, the Oregon Department of Forestry, Springfield Public Works, the Springfield Public Library, Eugene Springfield Fire and CAHOOTS, the organization that provides mobile crisis intervention in Springfield.
In Creswell and Veneta, the events will feature demonstrations from K9 teams and the Lane County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse. The events also will include deputy dunk tanks, activities for children and exhibits from community partners, including area fire departments.
National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie.
