An informed electorate is key to a properly functioning democracy.

It’s a simple premise, but one that Lookout Eugene-Springfield takes seriously, and it’s why we are not just heavily covering the 2026 elections, but making our coverage free for everyone, which is possible because of our members.

We believe every person should have access to nonpartisan, impartial coverage of campaigns, candidates, issues and measures. That’s what Lookout will provide, free for everyone.

Our coverage will include:

  • Stories on every candidate. We will focus on contested races first, but plan to expand to include every candidate, regardless of whether the race is contested.
  • Stories on each race. We will look at how the candidates compare and contrast with the issues most important to voters.
  • Reports on campaign contributions. We are already tracking how the candidates are being funded and plan to continue this, offering insights into where the money is coming from and along with is raising and spending the most.
  • Explainers on ballot measures so voters understand what they are, what they are intended to do and who is supporting or opposing them.
  • Community forums. We plan to have discussions with candidates to help residents understand the people who are running to represent them.
  • Endorsement editorials. The goal of endorsements is not to tell you who to vote for, but to discuss how we view issues and which candidate, in our view, is best positioned to address them and move the community forward. These interviews will be recorded and made available for readers to watch.
  • An elections page where you can quickly find all our coverage as you make your decisions when ballots are sent at the end of April.

As we head into the November general election, we will continue to report on the campaigns and candidates, offering additional profiles and endorsements.

We are able to offer this robust election coverage because of our members. If you are a Lookout Eugene-Springfield member already, thank you. If you are not, please consider becoming a member and supporting robust, independent, nonpartisan journalism in Lane County.
