Crews stopped the progression of a fast-moving fire that burned west of Eugene about 3 miles south of Fern Ridge Lake and Highway 126, according to the Oregon Department of Forestry.
When the nearly 15-acre fire broke out Thursday around 3:30 p.m., it threatened homes and structures in the Veneta area.
The Lane County Sheriff’s Office has since downgraded its Level 3 (“Go Now”) evacuation notices along Halderson Road west to Central Road, between Perkins and Cantrell roads. A Level 1 (“Be Ready”) notice remained in effect as of Friday.
ODF sent three engines and a helicopter, with Eugene Springfield Fire also assisting, in response to the blaze.

The Pickens Fire is the latest in a series of fires that broke out around Eugene and Springfield in the past week. Lightning sparked several ignitions in grassy and forested areas beginning Monday.
The storm moved out Wednesday. The cause of the Pickens Fire has not been released.
