Lane Community College alumni are invited to join the college’s first Alumni Day of Service to prepare bags of food and other care supplies for students before they leave for winter break.

The event will be Monday, Dec. 1, at Food for Lane County, 770 Bailey Hill Road, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The event is open to all LCC alumni: People who have taken a credit or noncredit class, completed a certificate or earned a degree at the college are considered part of its alumni community. Current students who have previously attended LCC and employees who also are alumni may participate as well.

In a press release, LCC said many of its students experience food insecurity and use the college’s on-campus food pantry. But students won’t have access to campus during the 30-day winter break, so the idea is to pack bags full of food and other essential items. Each bag will also contain a note of encouragement.

Pizza will be provided during the Day of Service, and participants are welcome to arrive at any time during the three hours. Participants are asked to RSVP at lanecc.edu/AlumniRSVP.
