Why are you running? I enjoy the in-depth conversations and the opportunity to contribute and help inform the strategic direction.
Priorities: Our school district mission is to create relevant, responsive, and joyful communities where all students thrive. Our board priorities align with this overall mission. This year we have focused on student wellness and engagement, staff well-being and joy, early literacy, and student mental/behavioral health supports.
Budget cutbacks: I would be least willing to cut quality instruction. I also deeply believe that we need to provide relevant, hands-on learning experiences for our students and we are proud of our career-technical programs that provide students with opportunities to explore many different career options.
Local control: Our role as a school board is to oversee the superintendent, ensure their success, approve policies and the budget. State engagement occurs in collaboration with the administrative team, while for federal matters, the state and superintendent are responsible for coordination and action with our support and advocacy.
