QuickTake:

For the second time in two days, one of Dan Lanning’s coordinators appears bound for a new job.

The Oregon Ducks could be searching for two new coordinators.

A day after offensive coordinator Will Stein accepted the head-coaching job at Kentucky, defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi is reportedly in negotiations to head back to the Bay Area to become the next head coach at Cal, according to The Athletic.

Lupoi, 44, is in his fourth — and best — season as Oregon’s DC, leading a defense that ranks third nationally in total defense. He’s making $2 million this year — with a buyout waived if he leaves for a head-coaching role — and on Tuesday was named a Broyles Award semifinalist for the second consecutive season.

A Walnut Creek native, Lupoi played defensive line at Cal from 2000-05 and later coached the Bears’ defensive line from 2008-11. Like Stein, this will be his first time as a head coach. He’ll also become the third coordinator to leave Dan Lanning’s staff for a Power Four head-coaching job in Lanning’s four seasons, joining Stein and Kenny Dillingham.

Lanning is scheduled to speak with reporters on Wednesday. We’ll be there for in-person coverage.
