who’s playing

Opponent: Indiana (5-0, 2-0 Big Ten)

Depth Chart/rosters: Oregon; Indiana

Indiana player to watch: Fernando Mendoza, quarterback

Mendoza might feel like he’s come out of nowhere as one of the nation’s Heisman candidates, but Oregon fans have actually gotten a glimpse of Indiana’s junior prodigy. Before joining the Hoosiers, Mendoza played two seasons at Cal — including in a 63-19 loss at Oregon in 2023 where he passed for 177 yards, no touchdowns and one interception.

But, as Mendoza’s 16 touchdowns, 1 interception and 1,208 passing yards in 2025 indicate, that was a long time ago.

“He’s got great delivery,” Oregon coach Dan Lanning said. “He’s able to throw the ball extremely well… He knows where his wideouts are going to be, knows what coverage he’s throwing into. That’s an indicator of a really well-coached player that knows his system extremely well.”

Oregon player to watch: Matayo Uiagalelei, edge

In a sense, Uiagalelei’s impact so far in 2025 has been a bit subdued. The junior end has just 11 tackles through Oregon’s first five games. But when you start to look at the type and timing of the tackles Uiagalelei has made, well, that changes the picture.

Uiagalelei has 4 sacks, 5 tackles for a loss, 3 passes broken up and will be absolutely vital for an Oregon defense that’s up against an Indiana offensive line that ranks 15th nationally in sacks allowed (5) so far in 2025.
