I am concerned about our local government, and specifically the Eugene City Council. I have lived in Eugene since 1970 and seen many changes over the years. At some point the basic system and structure was changed, and now it seems that we as citizens have little or no say in the direction of the city, the priorities or the budget.

I receive no information from my councilor and no ongoing feedback from the council. The monthly meetings are jammed with people who want to have input, who raise valid points and who have serious concerns, yet receive no response.

We live in very difficult and serious times and need to have a transparent and responsive local government. I appreciate the fine work of the Eugene City Club, the League of Women Voters and many others with whom I am unfamiliar. Even so, I think there needs to be more consistent, clear and verifiable information in the public sphere.
