QuickTake:
Music of many genres, dance parties, some hot science, a drag show and more is on tap for the holiday.
Happy two days before Valentine’s Day, Lookout readers. The Super Bowl was last weekend — but are you ready for the Super Bowl of interpersonal relationships? Or, to ask it another way: Do you have your Valentine’s Day plans ready?
Our food reporter, Taylor Goebel, has rounded up options to take your someone special out for a celebratory meal. I’m here to fulfill the other half of “dinner and a show,” with maybe our most jam-packed event roundup yet.
I’ve added a ❤️ next to the events that are scheduled for Valentine’s Day, if you need to find a last-minute plan. Let’s get into it:
We want to see a concert
The Eugene Concert Choir ❤️
There are not one, not two, but three opportunities to see the Eugene Concert Choir this weekend for chorus-loving lovebirds.
The first, “Songs From the Heart for Kids,” is a one-hour concert experience for families, with arts and crafts before the show. It also features schoolchildren from grades two to eight in the onstage performance. Next is “Valentine’s Night Out,” with refreshments, cash bar, dance lessons, band, social dancing and more before an 8 p.m. concert. Both concerts will include music from the third and final Valentine’s show, “Love Is in the Aire,” with the Eugene Concert Choir and Eugene Vocal Arts singing love songs across genres: classical, folk, popular and show tunes.

Four Oregon indie bands — three from Eugene, and one from Portland — will take the stage for this Sweetheart’s Ball. Hometown bands Mothra, Junkyard Divas and Kickbusch will be joined by Jakki & The Pink Smudge out of Portland, if you’re looking for a grungier way to spend the big day.

Maybe a different kind of show?
The Anatomy of Love
What’s more romantic than taking a stroll through an art gallery with your nearest and dearest? Now in its second year, “The Anatomy of Love,” an art show at the Hybrid Gallery, features work from 23 local artists, all focused on showcasing stories about love.

Xcape Dance Company: LOVE! ❤️

- Where: The Soreng Theater at the Hult Center
- When: Saturday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m.
- How much: Tickets are available online starting at $30.
Science Uncensored: Love Chemistry ❤️
Maybe the way to heat things up this Valentine’s Day is to watch a demonstration of the principles of thermodynamics. OK, I don’t know specifically what the science on display will be at this 21+ event at the Eugene Science Center, but it will feature enough to base romantic puns on. Festivities include a science-themed pickup line competition, so make sure it’s a good one.
- Where: Eugene Science Center, 2300 Leo Harris Parkway, Eugene
- When: Saturday, Feb. 14 from 6 to 9 p.m.
- How much: Tickets are available for $25 each, which includes two alcoholic drinks, soft drinks, desserts and other treats, a laser show, access to the science center’s exhibit gallery and discovery room and more.
HeartBurn: A Valentine’s Drag Show
How about a tiki cocktail and an evening of drag? This Friday night show in Springfield might be up your alley, featuring drag performers Edd Zackly, Lez B. Honest, Luke N. Good, Limoncello, King of Hearts, Solaaria, Cirque Du’Slayy and Autumn Liketheseason (God, I love drag names).
- Where: The Monkey’s Paw Tiki Bar, 420 Main St., Springfield
- When: Friday, Feb. 13. Doors open at 8 p.m.; show begins at 9 p.m.
- How much: There is no cover, but bring cash to tip the performers and be ready to spend some money on drinks.

What’s playing at the movies?
Date night at the box office
The major Valentine’s Day love story at the box office is the new “Wuthering Heights,” directed by Emerald Fennell (“Saltburn,” “Promising Young Woman”). It’s a reimagining of the classic Emily Brontë gothic tragedy, starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi as the doomed and obsessed pair of Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff.
This isn’t going to be a faithful adaptation, with Fennell saying it’s more about how she remembered the book when she first read it at 14 years old, with some risqué wish-fulfillment additions. New York Magazine’s critic called it a “smooth-brained ‘Wuthering Heights,’” and the New Yorker’s called it “extravagantly superficial” … but for a certain segment of the romance-genre loving population, is Fennell making two of Hollywood’s favorite dolls kiss really a problem?
Playing at Metro Cinemas, Cinemark Eugene-Springfield 17 and Regal Valley River Center.
Special screenings
As far as holiday-appropriate repertory screenings go, there are a few scheduled for Valentine’s Day you might want to add to your docket: the Art House has “Moulin Rouge!” for the tragic love story fans; Regal Valley River Center will be playing “Casablanca”; and those theaters as well as Cinemark Eugene-Springfield 17 will all have 40th anniversary screenings of “Pretty in Pink.”
What were the other options again?
Happy Valentine’s Day, Lookout readers, wherever the holiday takes you. (DoorDashing a meal to eat solo is also a valid way to celebrate.)
