Overview:
‘Tis the season to lug a heavy piece of vegetation into your living room (if you’re into that). Here’s a guide and map to local tree farms and shops where you can find one.
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree: Where can I actually find thee?
The clock is ticking to bring a fir forest into your living room or drag out a dusty plastic one. But in a region peppered with thousands of trees, doesn’t going with a fake tree feel like a waste?
When on the hunt for a real tree, the more outdoorsy among us can turn it into an actual in-the-woods hunt with a $5 permit to cut down your own tree in the Willamette National Forest.
But there are plenty of places where you can pick up a tree, no axe needed. (We have included a few U-cut options, for people who want to feel a bit lumberjack-y.) Here’s a roundup of farms and stores where you can pick up your Christmas tree this season.
Farms
Carroll’s Country Christmas Trees
This Veneta farm has both pre-cut and U-cut trees, available for pick up and delivery. In addition to the tree-shopping, an on-site sweet shop sells candy canes and other holiday treats and a hayride ($5 for adults and teens, $3 for children 12 years older and younger) offers a tour of the tree farm.
- Where: 26260 Perkins Road, in Veneta.
- When: The farm is open Mondays through Fridays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- How much: An online price list breaks down Carroll’s tree pricing, by type and height of tree. A 5-foot Douglas fir costs $55, while a 12-foot grand fir is $260. Bargain pre-cut trees come in at $40.
