Food and Dining Correspondent

Taylor Goebel is Lookout Eugene-Springfield’s food and dining correspondent. New to Oregon, she’s excited to explore Lane County’s culinary scene, as well as food and drink through the lens of business, agriculture, socioeconomics, labor, and more.

Taylor brings more than nine years of experience in multimedia journalism to Lookout Eugene-Springfield, reporting across beats including public education, healthcare, local elections, business, and food systems. During the coronavirus pandemic, she covered how production priorities clashed with meatpacking workers’ health and safety, as well as challenges faced by people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

In her last journalism gig, she had the privilege of reporting on food and drink in Snohomish County, Washington. There, she tried morels for the first time, documented the gutsy work of a fourth-generation fishing family, fell in love with olive sourdough made from locally grown and milled flour, and profiled a Sasquatch-themed coffee stand that brewed free coffee for firefighters during the 2022 Bolt Creek Fire.

Born and bred on the East Coast, Taylor most recently lived and worked in Philadelphia for three years as a communications manager, writing about residents overcoming significant financial and housing challenges through her nonprofit’s services. She also ate her weight in tomato pie, cheesesteak (Cooper Sharp, Sarcone’s roll), and momos. While Philly was an incredibly fulfilling chapter (in career, people, and food), Lookout Eugene-Springfield called her back to the PNW—and to local journalism.

Taylor holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Arts from Salisbury University and a Master of Science in Journalism from Northwestern University. When she’s not scoping out your next favorite eatery, she’s likely browning butter for a new baking project, sweating up a mountain, or falling in love with every cat she sees.
