Snowden Intern
Jasmine Saboorian is a recent graduate from the University of Oregon and is an intern with the Charles Snowden Program for Excellence in Journalism.
Jasmine is from Los Angeles and was a journalism major and sports business minor at UO. She began her journalism career in high school as the news editor for her school’s newspaper, the Calabasas Courier, where she discovered her passion for journalism.
When she came to UO, she joined the Daily Emerald, UO’s independent student newspaper. She served as a reporter, senior news reporter, and campus news editor during her three years with the publication.
Throughout her time at UO, Jasmine also worked with other student journalism-led groups, including KWVA 88.1 FM, where she served as a sports radio broadcaster for Oregon sports and learned to produce, tape, and present to an audio audience. She also worked with Duck TV, the school’s television network, where she produced weekly broadcast segments on news and sports around UO and Eugene.
An influential moment during Jasmine’s collegiate journalism career was when she got the opportunity to visit New York with her peers and faculty and got the chance to tour and speak with former alumni at journalism organizations, including The New York Times, CBS, The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg and ProPublica. This trip solidified Jasmine’s drive for journalism and her passion for presenting and reporting news for an audience.
Jasmine is looking forward to bringing everything she learned at the University of Oregon along with her past experiences to Lookout Eugene-Springfield and creating the best possible reporting for Eugene and Springfield residents.
