Eugene police blocked all traffic Wednesday, May 20, at High Street and 15th Avenue while investigating a hit-and-run collision that injured a bicyclist.

At about 1:40 p.m. a red pickup truck headed east on 15th Street struck an adult woman riding a bicycle, said Mikhail Budris, a Eugene police officer at the scene.

Budris, speaking shortly after 2 p.m., said officers were still interviewing witnesses and “trying to capture the full picture of the story.”

“My understanding of things so far is the bicycle was traveling in the bike lane, the truck was here, traveling eastbound …  then hit the bicyclist in the bike area, right here in the intersection area,” Budris said.

High Street has protected bicycle lanes, and a stop sign at the intersection requires vehicles on 15th Street to stop before crossing the street. The area is in the West University neighborhood, near the University of Oregon.

The red pickup left the scene, Budris said. He said the vehicle has an Idaho license plate.

The woman sustained injuries requiring her to be taken by ambulance to a hospital, Budris said.

“As far as extent of the injuries, we’re not sure right now,” Budris said. The woman was conscious and alert when driven to the hospital, he said.

Budris said he had no estimate for when the intersection would be reopened.
