An RV fire in Springfield killed two dogs early Friday, April 10, Eugene Springfield Fire said.
Firefighters responded shortly after midnight to the 700 block of 28th Street, entering the RV to battle the blaze.
But the discovery of fire beneath the RV’s floor led personnel to exit until firefighters could calm a fire fed by multiple propane tanks that created an unstable floor, fire officials said.
Two occupants were outside upon the arrival of fire crews, and the American Red Cross is providing temporary housing assistance, Eugene Springfield Fire said in a news release.
Firefighters found the deceased dogs inside the RV during a search after the fire. The fire’s cause is under investigation.
About three hours earlier, Eugene Springfield Fire responded at about 9 p.m. to a house fire with explosions in the 1300 block of F Street.
The home’s occupant was taken by ambulance to a hospital for evaluation of possible smoke inhalation.
Heavy flames damaged the structure, with fire crews unable to initially enter the house because of what fire officials in a news release called “hoarding conditions.” Fire officials said the cause of the blaze is under investigation.
