A pedestrian was found dead on Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway in Springfield after being struck by a vehicle on the morning of Thursday, Jan. 29, police said.
A statement from Springfield police said its initial investigation found the deceased man intentionally put himself in front of moving vehicles in the four-lane road near Cardinal Way, in front of PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center RiverBend.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene, police said.
The collision took place within two minutes of a 4:45 a.m. call from a different driver reporting a man seemed to intentionally jump in front of her vehicle on the same road near hospital, the police statement said. The caller said she managed to swerve and avoid hitting him.
Springfield Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating the crash.
