The Lane County Sheriff’s Office issued a Level 2 “get set” evacuation notice Tuesday, Sept. 16, for homes in the northeast corner of the county because of the Foley Ridge Fire. The notice was issued just after 5 p.m.

The affected homes are along Highway 242, beginning from the west where it joins Highway 126 and extending east to the county line.

Fire activity has closed Highway 242 for a stretch of about 20 miles beginning where it joins Highway 126, according to the Oregon Department of Transportation.

Level 2 notices do not ask people to leave immediately but state that residents must be prepared to leave at a moment’s notice.

The lightning-caused Foley Ridge Fire was first reported on Sept. 6 in the McKenzie River Ranger District, and as of Tuesday morning had burned about 437 acres. No structures had been lost as of Tuesday morning.
