QuickTake:

PeaceHealth confirmed that layoffs were happening across its Oregon Network — including in Lane County — and follow actions in May that saw a 1% cut at RiverBend.

PeaceHealth Medical Group laid off three employees Wednesday in its Oregon network, which includes Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend in Springfield and other facilities in Lane County.

Communications Manager Jim Murez provided few details, but said in a statement that “impacted caregivers will have the opportunity to apply for other positions within our organization.”

The affected roles were “largely system-based, leadership roles,” and the cuts are part of a restructuring of the medical group to “ensure the future viability of PeaceHealth,” Murez said.

Murez did not clarify where the layoffs occurred despite repeated requests but confirmed it included positions in Lane County. No hospital-based roles were cut, he said.

Wednesday’s layoffs totaled 18 across the nonprofit health organization, which operates in Oregon, Washington, and Alaska.

PeaceHealth cut staff at RiverBend in May, as part of a network-wide 1% reduction estimated at about 162 employees.

The layoffs come amid a series of gains and losses for PeaceHealth. While trimming its workforce, PeaceHealth has pursued projects such as a new behavioral health facility and an urgent care for children

Its network runs one of two emergency departments in the region, where patients face some of the state’s longest wait times.
