In addition to throwing out countless scraps of wrapping paper and boxes following a festive Christmas morning, disposing of your Christmas tree is often an even bigger seasonal headache.
Luckily, in Lane County, there are a few options.
Lane County transfer stations
Five transfer stations are open to the public for garbage and recycling during the winter; the locations and hours are listed here.
Flocked trees or trees with materials such as tinsel will have a minimum fee of $15. Natural trees will have a minimum fee of $11.
Yard waste is recycled at the Glenwood Transfer Station for a fee. Commercial customers in Florence are required to pay a per-ton fee for yard debris recycling. Customers at Cottage Grove and noncommercial customers in Florence are required to pay a fee by the cubic yard.
Lane Forest Products
Lane Forest Products accepts natural and flocked Christmas trees for recycling at two locations in Eugene and Springfield.
Eugene: 2111 Prairie Road
Springfield: 820 N. 42nd St.
Lane Forest Products has a Glenwood location that accepts natural (nonflocked) Christmas trees for a limited time. Lane Forest Products recommends calling before attempting to recycle trees at the location.
Natural trees are $3 to recycle at all three locations.
Flocked trees are $10 to recycle at Prairie Road and 42nd St. locations.
Boy Scouts
Boy Scout troops are collecting trees to raise funds. Suggested donation costs vary from $15 for a small tree under seven feet to $30 for a large or flocked tree.
You can fill out the following form made by Boy Scouts Troop 182 to schedule your Christmas tree pickup.
